Future Audi A1 Sportback (5 doors in Audi's special language) is presented by this concept car Audi A1 Sportback concept (Paris Auto Show, 2010). The very name of this concept car does not leave lots of space for the doubt: these design lines are the ones of the future Audi A1 Sportback. The design evolved since concept car Audi Metroproject Quattro: Audi designers did a bit more than just add two doors. The overall design is more serious, stronger. The new Audi radiator grill is a splendid evolution from classic Single Frame grill. Let's just hope this new grill will find its way on the production Audi A1....
Hybrid Powertrain
The powertrain of this concept car is of course hybrid, mixing combustion engine and electricity. The internal combustion engine is the famous Audi 1,4L TSFi: gasoline, turbo, and fuel direct injection. Althought its displacement is quite small, this engine is able to deliver 150 hp. An electrical motor is mounted on the front wheels shaft. Remember, the electrical motor of Audi Metroproject Quattro Concept, announcing the 3-doors versions of Audi A1, was positionned on the back wheels - so the name Quattro for a 4-wheels drive vehicle.
The batteries of this Audi A1 Sportback concept may be recharged. The size of these batteries is also larger than on some simple hybrid cars like Toyota Prius 2 & 3. Now, the range of operations of this Audi A1 Sportback Concept is extended to 100 km. A real technological solution, ready for mass-production.
